How to Build a Wind Turbine
By Bruce Knight

Here you will find detailed instructions on how to build a 4 foot wind turbine.

A turbine of this size, should generate about 100 watts in a strong wind. This will never be enough to take you off the grid, but the project is quite simple and you will learn lots. Once I had gathered the parts I needed, I had the turbine finished in a day. I have tried to include the basic instructions and some pictures. If you need more detailed pictures, please take a quick look here:

blog  Going Green through choosing the right type of Business web hosting service
Whenever you are about to make a purchase decision, try to make your purchase effect your carbon footprint for good. When you are about to buy for example, web hosting, consider buying a green web hosting service. Many business web hosting service providers have now started to use wind energy to power their web hosting servers. Most of them are 100% powered by wind energy and that includes their dedicated servers as well.

Using wind energy to power the web hosting data centers not only benefits the environment, but it also effects the web host's own bottom line for good. This is because due to an increased awareness about the environment, more and more small businesses and individual webmasters/blog owners now prefer green powered business hosting companies. According to a brief survey, many business hosting companies that offer cPanel hosting also u

blog  Power Saver
I just installed a new device.
I will give you statistics in a few months
(comparisons to same month in previous years)
I bought a new toy on eBay for around $10 that claims to reduce electric consumption.

Simply put, you plug this device in near your power entrance and it works to reduce power wasted by appliances.

How does it do this?
It claims to increase the "Power Factor" which is technical term (closely related to efficiency from the point of view of billing by your electric company)

for details read here How Power Savers Work

The device is a small box that blocks both plugs on an outlet.
They say not to put it on an extension cord so I assume the six outlet multi plugs are also not to be used.

It looks like this Power Saver 1800

If you have experience with units like this or the more expensive hardwired type please let me know.

From the Blogs:

I always enjoy the first day after Labour Day. As a student, I looked forward to going back to school (yes, it's true!) and as a parent, I enjoy seeing my daughter head back to school, and thankfully she does too. It is a time of new beginnings and of changing for the better.

And since it is that time of year again - here are some of my thoughts on going back to school with a renewed commitment to green!

First, I would like to commend the New Brunswick Lung Association and Department of Education for being the first province in Canada to implement a no-idling policy for school buses. They worked together to introduce the policy in September 2005, which covers about 1,200 school buses around the province.
