Little things make the difference; close the lights when you get out of a room, don't live the water running when you brush your teeth, recycle, use enviromental bulbs, don't throw batteries and ink in the garbage send them to places where they collect such as futurshop or staples, don't live the car running for no reason and try to share a car or take the bus.It is these little thing that matter.

Tip of the Day: February 06, 2010

Switch from antibacterial soap to regular soap. There are no health benefits of using anti-bacterial soap unless you leave it on your hands for two minutes. There are huge negative environmental impact of the active ingredient, Triclosan, staying in natural waterways. AND regular soap is cheaper!

Tip of the Day: February 05, 2010

We all know about dressing in layers to keep warm outside, but it really helps in the house too. Especially if you TUCK IN, ie. undershirt into longjohns or tights, shirt into pants + same with 2 pairs of socks, 1 under longjs and one pair over,(or even over pants) and then a sweater overlapping and below the waistband. Turtlenecks are really good @ keeping heat in! Now turn down the thermostat!

Tip of the Day: January 08, 2010

I recently made a cheap solar water heater for my house. It uses a 310 liter (80 gal) tank. It heats water to 55C (135F) on sunny days. It cost around $300 USD to build. I even put in a cheap little back up electric heater for cloudy days. Thought you might be interested. Here is a video/blog post:<br />http://www.teaters.com/modules.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=217

Tip of the Day: January 06, 2010

Research all the great uses of vinegar for cleaning. It's good for cleaning a lot of things that people would normally use that harsh CLR cleaner for. It is very multipurpose and the smell goes away after a couple of minutes when it's dry so don't worry about your house being "stinky".

Tip of the Day: December 31, 2009

About 18 years ago I bought about 10 metres of non-see through Christmas fabric--out of that I made bags of different sizes, attaching a draw string and straw metal bells and out of two separate 1 metre pieces, which I hemmed, I then had Christmas present wrappings. The metre-long pieces for big presents and the bags for others, with the bells to discourage snoopers. I still use them.

Tip of the Day: December 06, 2009

Instead of using air 'freshener', which is filled with toxic 'fragrance' chemicals, buy a party bottle of cheap vodka and pour some into a sprayer bottle with lemon and orange peels. You can use this food-grade mixture to spray your bathroom and kitchen fixtures for quick and safe cleanups, and it actually freshens the air without poisoning you. You can also spray it on cuts, or even on your feet!
